Social Studies
Garden City, Kansas
Hello! My name is Becca, and I am a social studies  teacher in Garden City (457) by way of Montana and originating from California. I currently teach sections of Modern World History, US History and US Government in regular, accelerated and remedial settings. Additionally for 8 years I was a 6th grade teacher, departmentalized in ancient civilizations and science. I have also taught ESL at the college level and mini level. I spend my summers working with high school students remediating core classes and bridging the gap for our k-4 ESL population.

My bachelor's is in Liberal Arts, and my master's is in the art of teaching with my thesis focusing on play-based learning.

I consider myself a superstar unicorn (because unicorns serve as a reminder to believe in ourselves) in student-based instruction, which means taking myself out of the front of the classroom and integrating myself into my students' learning experience. It can be scary to some; however, it's easier than you think — but not less messy. I am a firm believer that we must use technology as an appropriate tool- not just a task, and often!

In 2016, I was the Crystal Apple Winner for Finney County, and in 2017 I was a Kansas Horizon Award Winner.

I am part of many facets of our districts inner workings. From serving as lead 6th grade teacher for the district for 8 years to MTSS site council. Additionally, I have served on building leadership teams, to district redesign team (stage 1), social emotional committee to K-8 technology implementation team, district and building level site council and homework committee. I have been apart of 4 textbook adoptions. I currently serve on the district curriculum council since 2019 and our building AVID site team and PLC leader team since 2021. I have also served on the KTOY region 1 selection team since 2021.

Some fun facts - I truly believe I am the best singer in my whole wide car, relationships are my jam, and am fascinated when I emerse myself into the life of Gen Z'ers — they have so much to teach me. Most importantly I am a consumer of education, I have have three children who are classified as Gen Alpha, (Age 7 (2nd grade), 5 (Kinder) and 2) and they are my biggest inspirations.

I can't wait to meet you and create wonderful learning experiences for students!
