This session will guide participants to use social justice picture books to develop children’s critical literacy (preK-2). First, a framework to guide critical literacy instruction will be presented. Then, examples of how specific social justice picture books can be used to teach critical literacy will be provided. Finally, participants will practice selecting social justice books and topics to meet their classroom needs, and plan to for critical literacies instruction with these. These selections and plans will be shared and discussed. Feedback will be provided.
There are many steps and separate ideas in learning how to count that all have to be coordinated. Come explore how young children build their counting skills and connect them to their growing number sense.
